ABROACH, adv. [See Broach.]

Broached; letter out or yielding liquor, or in a posture for letting out; as a cask is abroach. Figuratively used by Shakespeare for setting loose, or in a state of being diffused, "Set mischief abroach;" but this sense is unusual.

  1. To set abroach; to let out, as liquor; to broach; to tap.
    [Obs.] Chaucer.
  2. Broached; in a condition for letting out or yielding liquor, as a cask which is tapped.

  3. Hence: In a state to be diffused or propagated; afoot; astir.
