FRONT'AL, n. [L. frontale., frons.]

1. In medicine, a medicament or preparation to be applied to the forehead.

2. In architecture, a little pediment or frontpiece, over a small door or window.

3. In Jewish ceremonies, a frontlet or browband, consisting of four pieces of vellum, laid on leather, and tied round the forehead in the synagogue; each piece containing some text of scripture.

  2. Something worn on the forehead or face; a frontlet
    ; as: (a)
  3. A little pediment over a door or window.
  4. A movable, decorative member in metal, carved wood, or, commonly, in rich stuff or in embroidery, covering the front of the altar. Frontals are usually changed according to the different ceremonies.
  5. A medicament or application for the forehead.

  6. The frontal bone, or one of the two frontal bones, of the cranium.
