SHUT, v.t. pretand pp. shut.

1. To close so as to hinder ingress or egress; as, to shut a door or gate; to shut the eyes or the mouth.

2. To prohibit; to bar; to forbid entrance into; as, to shut the ports of the kingdom by a blockade.
