TIP, n.

1. The end; the point or extremity of any thing small; as the tip of the finger; the tip of a spear; the tip of the tongue; the tip of the ear.

2. One part of the play at nine-pins.

3. In botany, an anther.

TIP, v.t. To form a point with something; to cover the tip, top or end; a, to tip any thing with gold or silver.

  3. A piece of stiffened lining pasted on the inside of a hat crown.
  4. A thin, boarded brush made of camel's hair, used by gilders in lifting gold leaf.
  5. Rubbish thrown from a quarry.
  6. To form a point upon] to cover the tip, top, or end of; as, to tip anything with gold or silver.
